Sorry if I've already suggested this to you but...I started out blogging w. Blogger. It DOES suck. Check out WordPress. The self-hosted version is a bit more technically demanding than Blogger. But there is a WP-hosted version (Wordpress.com) which is prob. similar in level of difficulty to Blogger. But it is light years ahead of Blogger in terms of what you can do. And WP has tons of capability & flexibility in terms of photography/galleries, etc.
